Western Oregon University

Western Oregon University (WOU) is a public Liberal Arts College situated in Monmouth, Oregon.

The school was initially instituted in 1856 by Oregon pioneers as Monmouth College. Later names included Oregon College of Education, Oregon Normal School, and Western Oregon State University.

Western Oregon University includes both the school of Liberal Sciences and Arts and the school of Education. Enrollment is around 400 graduates and 6,200 undergraduates who enjoy an energetic and cohesive intellectual society comparable to the surroundings in a tiny liberal arts university. 

Western Oregon University provides bachelor's degrees (BS, BA, BM, and BFA) in its 2 schools: the school of Liberal Sciences and Arts and the school of Education. Master's degrees are accessible in Education (MSEd and MAT), Criminal Justice (MA), Rehabilitation Counseling (MS), Management and Information Systems (MS), Music (MM), and History (MA). In 2011, a U.S. News & World Report graded Western Oregon as the 83rd top amid the local colleges in the west.

The Western Oregon University sports squads are known as the Wolves and participate in the NCAA's grand Northwest Athletic Convention at the Division II stage. WOU supports 13 intercollegiate games. In their history in the NAIA before their changeover to the NCAA, Western Oregon University won many NAIA state designations in women’s basketball. The Baseball group on university grounds has experienced a great deal of accomplishment in the GNAC, winning 10 successive convention titles since 2001.

The Field and Track groups have as well performed well in the convention, with the men's group winning four successive GNAC Indoor Track designations since 2008. In the end of 2010, the women's and men's cross country groups earned their initial berths in college history to the NCAA where they were positioned 20th and 21st, in that order.

WOU was an initial champion of the higher learning excellence in variety honor on November 15, 2012. This prize distinguishes colleges and universities that have exhibited the top level of dedication and accomplishment towards promoting a campus society that commemorates all the numerous aspects of variety.

Ackerman Residence Hall has obtained numerous rewards for its environmental responsive design and functions. Green Home Authority acknowledged Ackerman Residence Hall as one of the 10 eco-friendliest dormitories in the state in 2011. Mother Nature group as well listed Ackerman as one of the ten greenest dormitories on the globe in 2010.

Nine Western Oregon University faculty and staff have been acknowledged by National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) for educational advising (3 in 2008, 1 in 2009, 2 in 2010, 2 in 2011, and 1 in 2012).
